Jane Theodore
Biography
​
Jane Theodore lives and paints in Toronto, Canada. With a background in graphic design and illustration, she has had a successful career as a print-maker. In 2013, Jane shifted her focus exclusively to painting. Jane’s work is a process-driven, spontaneous exploration of gesture, form and colour. Compositions are revealed as layers of paint are added and subtracted, forms appear and disappear, and the paint is scratched or scraped, exposing what lies beneath. Working on both paper and canvas, the paintings’ foundation is high-intensity colour, and invites an intuitive and visceral reaction. Jane’s latest paintings are joyful, fresh, buttery smooth and energetic, the work never appears overworked or tired. This is visual candy created by an experienced hand motivated by pure originality of thought. Jane’s inspired visual delights parallel the finest confections, they always leave you wanting more.
Jane has worked in fine arts since 1992, her background includes exhibited work in galleries, representation by international art distributors Progressive Fine Art, and Chicago Center for the Print, and publication by fine art publishers Verkerke Reprodukties N. V., of Holland. Jane’s work is included in the Collections Canada website, Women Artists in Canada, and represented in numerous collections throughout North America.
